The Hunt for Classics Continues. After 6 years of following, climbing and skiing 46 of the lines and mountains in the book “The Fifty Classic Ski Descents of North America”, it’s time to pursue a personally inspired and modern list of classics.
Introducing the first episode of the FIFTY+ (that’s FIFTY “Plus” FYI). With many more to come, Cody Townsend and a long list of guest skiers, climbers and outdoor adventures climb and ski a list of backcountry ski lines and mountains that number far beyond 50. Using a personally created metric of characteristics like Aesthetics, Inspiration, Ski-Ability, Danger and more, each episode will venture into the mountains and come home with a decision on the question, “Is it a Classic or not?”
Episode 1 is The Northstar Couloir, a line that draws your eye in from almost every corner of the small ski town at the base of Alyeska Ski Resort, Girdwood, Alaska. With a 10mi / 16k approach and 6k / 1800m of elevation gain, the couloir follows the mantra of Alaska, everything is bigger than it looks in AK. Joined by Elyse Saugstad, the crew embarks on a multi-day adventure to take Elyse on her first winter camping adventure, encounter tough decisions, touchy avalanche conditions and an obligatory sufferfest to ski an off-road Alaskan quintessential couloir. -

Johanna and Wenla enjoy freeriding, although both have had challenges with the sport.
Wenla started the hobby when she was the only parent of a small baby, but believed that she could practice the sport that was important to her. Johanna suffers from a fear of heights and tenderness, which she has been working on while freeriding. The film aims to show that even as an adult you can have adventures and that freeriding belongs to everyone, regardless of age, skill level or life situation.

Faction skis production portrait about Sam Anthamatten
The industry looks at Sam mainly as “the teacher.” We will explore this side of Sam while showcasing another side: the student of new environments and terrain, and different styles of skiing. We will celebrate the way Sam takes enjoyment, both in what he shares and learns.
